We are not Acid Victims, We are Victors

Everybody loves beauty. When somebody admires you, you get elated. What if time changes and you suddenly realize that you are an acid victim now and people look at you in a different way! It is indeed awful for everybody, however, gone are the days, when acid victim wanted to confine themselves to their room only. Now, they are inspiring us with their encouraging “Going ahead with life” attitude. There are acid victims in India who have not only come out from their own quandry but also helping others to get rid of those horrendous feelings. Acid attack is a heinous crime that the psychopath, jilted lovers, estranged spouse commit to avenge.

Female Acid Victims in India

Acid Attacks on females in India are increasing in a large ratio now. In our patriarchal society, women are considered to give their assent to everything that men say, if they refuse then the results are always in the form of domestic violence, murder, rape, acid attack etc. The government must enact new strict rules to stop Acid Attacks. The first is to stop selling of acid in the local market. In 2013, the Supreme Court of India ordered the government to put a ban on the sale of Acids in the local market, however, it came out to be a failure and still, anybody can purchase acid in India at a very low price.

The loss of one’s beauty and face is a huge anguishment for the lifetime. Acid Attacks are not only physical assaults but psychological too. We have good examples of Acid Victims..oops not Victims…these are actually victors! We will discuss their courageous stories, it is an inspiration for all of us.

She refused his marriage proposal and the jilted lover, who was twice of the age of the girl, did this brutal act. Usually, acid attack victims in India are afraid of those stares and comments when they go out. However, these feelings did not leave any impact on Laxmi and she is leading her life on her terms now. She is a TV host, a beautiful mother and working as a social activist for acid victims in India.

Reshma Qureshi was a 17-year-old shy girl when her brother in law made this awful crime. He sent two men to her house who poured acid oil over Reshma’s face. This brunt her face totally and doctors had to remove her one eye in surgery. This incident shook the whole family, as the youngest and the most loved person in the family had become one of the acid victims now. Reshma’s life was complete black until she met MLNS (Make Love Not Scars) NGO. This NGO made Reshma walk the ramp for the New York Fashion Week. This ramp walk boosted the confidence in Reshma and today she owns a Youtube channel and gives beauty tips in her videos. Reshma is an utter beauty and inspiration for all of us.

Owing to complete face burn, Lalita had to undergo 17 surgeries. Lalita Ben Bani’s story is not less than a Bollywood romantic love story. One wrong missed call number changed her entire life. Today Lalita is happily married to the love of her life. The 27-year-old CCTV operator Rahul Kumar found his love in Lalita. She gives us life goals that we should go ahead with life.

In 2003, Sonali Mukherjee was attacked in her own home when three boys forcefully entered into her house and asked for sexual advances.When Sonali rejected it, they spilled acid over her. This burnt Sonali’s face completely, however, she did not shatter down and went ahead with life. In 2013, she participated in Kaun Banega Crorepati show and won Rs. 30 lakhs. Today she is a happy wife, on the work front, she is working as a clerk in the welfare department of the Bokaro deputy commissioner’s office, in Jharkhand.

Mohini is working as a coordinator with the Delhi Commission for women and aiding acid victims in India. Today Mohini Kumar has become a doting mother and has a loving and caring husband.
